Three people were recently killed as a result of a charter bus crashing and rolling over on Interstate 15. Several people were actually ejected from the bus in the accident. In addition to the fatalities many people had to be hospitalized for their injuries. The injured passengers were sent to three local hospitals, with injuries ranging from minor to critical.
This major crash is currently under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board. According to news reports the bus was beginning to go uphill when the driver lost control of the bus. It is unknown at this time what the contributing factors to this accident are, including the possibility of the wet road surface.
The bus in question is owned by Executive Lines, Inc., which is based in El Monte in the Los Angeles area. The bus was going to Tijuana, Mexico when the crash happened after picking up passengers from a few other cities on the way. Although the accident happened in San Diego County, most passengers live in Los Angeles, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties.
The bus driver in this case is not suspected to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, but further investigation is necessary to determine whether the driver was driving too fast for the road conditions or in some other way was negligently operating the vehicle. In a complicated a major crash such as this a thorough investigation by expert accident reconstruction engineers will ultimately be necessary.
